changes

changing things up. thats what we have been doing lately. from diets to me getting lasik things are a changing. the BIGGEST and MOST TIME CONSUMING change we have made is in our dining & living rooms, hallway and entry way.

yes, we havent lived in our house very long. just a few years. and yes we originally painted these rooms tan to match the carpets. but then we painted the rest of the house. and pretty much the rest of the upstairs turned out to be different shades of gray. cuz i love me some gray. so i figured, why should our walls match our carpet when our furniture doesnt match anything? (turquoise/aqua tv stand and green plaid couches thank you very much) sooooooo i convinced my mom and sister to come up and paint. ok so kenz didnt really paint which was perfect cuz she watched claire.

when i originally brought up the idea to the hubs, his first response was no. because it will look like a prison. (he said he liked the gray in all the other rooms but those didnt look like a prison to him)

please take note of the beams. those pesky beams waaaaaaay high up. yup. that amazing-ness is all thanks to my mom. shes not afraid of heights and thankfully was up on the ladder painting those things. ugh. i was sore just watching her! heres to hoping i dont change my mind in another 2-3 years. haha! 

i love it. now we just gotta find some new curtains...carpet....and couches...some day...and maybe spray paint the frames in the frame wall to make em really pop, who knows.

floored by the floor

well the hubs got around to re-installing (most) of the baseboards in the dining room and kitchen so i figured it was safe to take pictures of the "final" project. mind you theres still some baseboards to install and some paint touch ups as well. painting falls in my category i guess so we will see when that gets done. (fyi: that part of the project was never discussed in the planning phases) darn. oh well. 

there isnt a lot to talk about. claire & i left the house and loud banging and left the hubs at home to do his thing. thankfully he already had some practice helping to install my moms floor so there wasnt a lot of to learn.

side note - when the hubs took out the laminate by the sliding glass doors, we found that the previous owners had simply covered up an air vent (i think thats what its called) 
 

 

and then underneath the laminate in the dining room we found some LOVELY parkay. 

 

and the afters.  (sorry the lighting is off. i still plan to learn how to use this camera properly. someday...)

 

we love it! its not too light. and the seams are darker which really helps bring in the color of the table and the cabinets. so that projects (almost) done. now to just figure out what project will be next on the list...

 after a nice relaxing weekend (for claire & i) we came home sunday afternoon to this...

check out whats hanging out in our basement?! our new floor! 

i couldnt be more excited! oh wait i can...the hubs is gonna install it this weekend while claire & i hang out in hutch. now thats my idea of a great project!

the mystery box...

remember that mystery box? if not, heres a refresher

well inside that mystery box was a new dining set. see that table to the left of the mystery box? yah, that was the old dining table. the one that looked teeny tiny in our new dining room. the one that could fit barely fit 4 people plus their plates & cup around it. and guess what. we love the dining set. (whos surprised?!?!)

we the hubs got one surprise though. pulling staples. lots and lots of staples.

moral of the story: we love it. so much! it definitely fits the space much better & can even extend longer for maybe a family holiday meal sometime!?!? we cant wait to entertain and have people over.
