celebrate

my february resolution was to celebrate 2 years since perkins. two years since the hubs and i met for the first time. craaaaa--zy! i guess our "official" celebration, the day of was a delicious home made steak supper. but we also got to spend time celebrating the weekend before valentines day in wisconsin too. we painted some rooms for some family in preparation for our new niece :) gotta love the practice painting...im sure we will be doing more soon...we were treated to a delicious hibachi dinner and came across this surprise...
yes, i did take a picture of the toilet. but seriously, i would have never expected this...a seat warmer, buttons for a shower, bidet & dry?!? in a standard restaurant?

on a completely different note, we went skiing today. today was my first (and most likely last) time skiing. remember, the hubs loves everything outdoors and i love everything indoors (minus the xbox). lets just say it was completely awkward to be 25 on a bunny hill surrounded by 6-10 year olds who are a billion times better than me. oh well. and heres the proof:

so i guess that makes me 2 for 2 in the resolutions department. not too bad. and i have a feeling ill continue accomplishing these resolutions :) next up: read a book on a beach. 7 days. not that im counting or anything....

super bowl

for our super bowl gathering we decided to make those bacon wrapped stuffed jalapenos again. the first time we made them, the hubs' fingers began burning & he may or may not have had to soak them in milk to try take the sting away. so we figured we would bypass that this time and wash our hands frequently.

however i think i got a little payback from laughing at his "misery" the first time because this time i went to blow my nose and ended up having a burning/stinging nose for a few hours. But that wasnt our only excitement in our party prepping...let me just show you a picture to prove it...

so why do we have our vacuum on a chair in front of the stove? well...after searching the kitchen & dining room for at least 15 minutes for the toothpicks, we looked behind the stove & there they were...so someone got a great idea to try suction the box up, which actually worked! so our problem was solved.

awhile later our friends came over and it was good to see everyone. turns out i didnt take any pictures. whoops! (this fact alone does not help my quest in getting an ok to get a dslr camera anytime soon) but we had a lot of fun, ate a lot of deliciously unhealthy food and watched the packers win. (im sure andrew & my other wisconsin family members will be reminding me of that for years to come!)

not the most exciting and interesting story to blog about i guess, but its definitely one of those things where we had a good laugh and will remember for a long time to come. which im very thankful for!

remember when...

remember when i finally uploaded all my pictures so i could get the pictures of the bread to post about? and how i came across a bunch i had forgotten about. oh yea. right now. so this will be a random posting.

we went to the holidazzle parade with another couple this year. its a parade here where each float is covered in lights. this years theme was "a fairytale for all". so many fairytale characters & of course santa made an appearance. while we saved spots in the freezing weather, our guys went to find us food. minus the typical winter weather it was a lot of fun. especially hanging out with this girl:

after baking a bunch of desserts for the christmas season, i wanted to try my hand at cooking something in january so i tried these:

cream cheese stuffed jalapenos wrapped in bacon. yes, it is heart healthy! haha. surprisingly i really liked these. i probably could have ate a bunch of them...but my hubs definitely beat me to that! i think we will be having these again this weekend for the super bowl.

homemade bread

sounds kinda easy. well...lesson learned. my first attempt at bread was a major fail.

lesson one: read the instructions. turns out this recipe needed to rise for 12-18 hours. so i quickly searched for a different recipe to attempt. man, the pictures looked awesome. light, flaky & delicious. mine, not so much. mine ended up being a hard ball basically.

lesson two: dont take your frustration & stress out when making bread.

lesson three: when taking the bread out of the oven, its gonna be hot. dont burn yourself.

lesson four: make sure da hubs isnt playing xbox so when you do burn yourself he can come to your rescue.

i didnt really want to completely fail on my first resolution of the year...so i attempted the original recipe. i remembered my previous lessons learned, and was pleasantly surprised when IT ACTUALLY TURNED OUT! we tried some variations too...added herbs, cheese and of course garlic (da hubs' favorite "super food")

this recipe was super easy (the hardest parts were remembering to make it ahead of time and to wait patiently for it to finish cooking because it smelled sooo good)  da hubs asked if i could make this every day. maybe ill have to teach him...

so i guess that makes me one for one. not a bad average. ill leave you with is, i think february is gonna be a good month. for a few different reasons. hopefully ill blog about them BEFORE the end of the month!
