first trimester catch up

welcome to a long post. 13 weeks worth of a post.

we found out about this little one just before thanksgiving. and then celebrated thanksgiving with my side of the family. let me just tell you it was SO incredibly hard to be around my family and NOT say anything. i thought it was gonna be so obvious...me not drinking pop and suddenly drinking a lot of water. but turns out it wasnt that obvious.

the next week started week 5. and also started some complications. complications i dont want to get into here...but moral of the story we had our first ultrasound. the little baby looked just like a little caterpillar.

week 6 we got our second ultrasound to ensure the baby was growing; and here we got to see to the heartbeat. and this is where the hubs decided its a boy. because he heard the song "mary did you know, that your baby boy..." was playing in the background (i dont even remember there being music there but still...)

the beginning of december is when we told our parents and siblings...and everyone was very excited, and maybe a bit surprised? and then we promptly told them "dont tell anyone" :) cuz we are nice like that.

week 9 we had the "typical first ob appt" and had our 3rd ultrasound. auntie shannon was able to be there this time and we got to once again see the heartbeat and even saw the baby move (so incredibly odd to see, but really cool) this time the baby looked like a little kidney bean.

weeks 10-13 have been uneventful id say. (knock on wood) i think ive got a bit of a baby bump, some days more than others...even though i havent gained any weight. im so thankful i havent had any morning sickness but sometimes i think id rather have that than the worry and anxiety i had weeks 5 thru 10. but everything happens for a reason. and thats ok.

we have been taking weekly pictures and im hoping to make it into a book for the baby. or something like that. its been fun to document how ive been changing and how the baby is developing and growing each week. and as of right now we are not gonna find out if its a boy or girl. (please remind me of this when we get closer to the 20 week ultrasound!!)

(please disregard how pale i look. this household has been sick the past week so add on sickness & more exhaustion to an already tired pregnant girl = this picture)

and there you have it. you are officially caught up on the first trimester.  whew. no off to get some more sleep before work...

telling the hubs

finding out and telling the hubs.

one afternoon i decided to take a cheap dollar store test (you know, not to waste too much money) and swore/convinced myself i saw a faint line. so i somehow talked myself into waiting until the next morning to take the test again. the next morning, after the hubs woke me up to tell me he was going to work, i patiently waited until he was gone and took another dollar store test. nadda. no faint line or anything. so i did what any sane person would do, decided to take the test again on the expensive kind. right? right. and it came out positive. well at 630 in the morning i was faced with a situation. one said no, and one said yes. so CLEARLY the next step was to quick get dressed, drink some water and go to cub to buy a different brand. right? right. well that brand said yes too.

so now begins the longest day ever. mind you i love sleep. but i knew i wouldnt be able to get any more sleep until i told someone the hubs. later on in the day i even talked to shannon on the phone and was freaking out in my head wanting to tell her but knowing i shouldnt. i even texted the hubs a bunch saying things like "you should come home early today, i know you want to see me" etc. no such luck.

so FINALLY 5pm came around and the hubs was home. and i was anxious. very anxious. he proceeded to open this card:

cuz thats how much i love him right? the inside said something along the lines of "congrats one of your swimmers won the race. prize to be claimed in 9 months"

and then he just looked at me and said are you serious?! with a giant grin. and then he asked what was in the garbage bag on the counter. (ie the tissue paper i used to wrap up the positive tests.)

well we are 13 weeks in and im still thinking its so odd/weird/surreal/etc that theres a little baby growing in me. the hubs has been so incredibly helpful and supportive this first trimester, even when all i do is wake up and lay down for a nap a few hours later and cant find the ambition to do anything (cleaning/laundry/cooking etc).

Never Say Never

Never say Never. No, im not referring to the Justin Beiber film. Im talking about that old saying your parents taught you. To never say never. Turns out they were right. Looks like I said never and its now biting me in the butt. Remember way back when my husband ran some marathons? Yea. Im sure I said about a gazillion times that I thought that was crazy and I would NEVER run a marathon. Mmmmm hmmmm. Bit in the butt.

Last week I went to the doctor and turns out she says shes gonna have me running a marathon by the end of July. SAY WHAT?!?!

Immediately after she said that I asked myself over and over again, WHAT DID I GET MYSELF INTO?!!?!?

Well turns out im surprsingly ok with this. I know im crazy. So crazy in fact that Im eating healthier. (YES---ITS TRUE!) Fruits and veggies and even water. AND I’ve dramatically decreased my pop intake. (YES---THAT’S TRUE TOO!) But I’ve got it a bit better than the hubs did. My exercise plan is to walk. And that’s it---doctors orders even! And my prize after this marathon WAY better than the hubs little medal. My prize will be a baby! YES! You heard it correctly---the hubs & I are pregnant! And no joke, my doctor did compare giving birth to running a marathon. You can ask the hubs, he was there as a witness!

easy peasy project...

so we just finished up a pretty simple project. however it did take some time. mainly to gather all the correct materials for the job. i saw some ideas on a closet door turned wrapping paper organization online and attempted to buy everything. well turns out i got the wrong sort of baskets. so back to the internet (ie pinterest) i went in search for some different ideas. and came across one with materials from ikea. PERFECT.

however even when you think you give your hubs a very organized "to buy" list (ie the product name, price, product number, hand drawn picture of what it will look like and how many of each to buy....) you will most likely have to send him back to the store because he bought one instead of two. oh well, at least its on his way home from work i guess.

so after procrastinating on buying everything and two ikea trips over the span of about a month...we finally have a completed project. installation time: less than 15 minutes.

(please excuse the bad lighting; im still attempting to figure out how to work the camera)

so there we have it. a simple closet door holding cards, tissue paper, bags, wrapping paper, and a little can with tape, scissors & pens. perfect. heres to staying lazy & warm ---now i only have to travel a few steps to get to this step instead of going ALL the way downstairs in the COLD COLD basement to quick grab something. :)

mumbo jumbo

mumbo jumbo. thats the best title i can think of right now. so remember that list of 10 projects i listed of things we needed to do, the one where i volunteered the hubs to do without him really knowing? well he surprisingly jumped right into those projects and has been working on em here and there. you know in between xbox. :)

he started on the little bench for the entry way by the coats. since its so cold outside, he even volunteered to do the painting too! now i just gotta find some fabric.

he even has made a lot of progress on a little console table for the entry way too.

and somehow---he even found some time for a project NOT on that list. something for his spring/summer projects. landscaping. he created a little garden inside. or something like that. complete with an electric blanket and grow lights.

birthday celebration

the hubs' birthday was this past weekend. any guesses as to how we celebrated? how about a gigantic FREE burger from his favorite place to eat...fuddruckers? yup. thankfully he invited me along to THIS free food outing.

what do i mean by that you ask? oh well lets rewind about 2 weeks ago. to the day the hubs spent (NO JOKE) 3 hours on the internet. googling and signing up for restaurants' birthday deals/their clubs.

so what did he all cash in on? (without me mind you, cuz then he would have to pay, defeating the purpose of "FREE")

1. free unlimited stir fry meals at a mongolian grill
2. free bagel & cream cheese & cookie from bruggers bagel
3. free burger from fuddruckers
4. free stir fry from houlihans
5. free cookie from panera
6. free appetizer from tgifridays
7. free chicken wings from hooters
8. free burger meal from ruby tuesday
9. free gourmet dessert from mccormick & schmicks
10. free sandwich from schlotzkys

freebies still to partake in:
1. free meal from benihanas
2. free bowl from noodles
3. free creamslush from sonic
4. free sundae from culvers

so yah. havent really seen too much of the hubs lately. hes either been on the xbox or eating some free meal leaving me with a bunch leftovers. looks like hes having a great birthday month. :)

new years weekend

new years weekend the hubs and i headed on over to my hometown to celebrate christmas/new years with my immediate family. it was a very relaxing and we had a lot of fun. dont believe me? check this picture out:

one of the best (maybe worst---jk) was watching home videos. ones i dont remember ever seeing before. in these videos i was about 4-12ish. we had a bit of everything: vacations, dance performances, preschool events, christmas, birthdays, etc.

i cant even begin to tell you my favorite parts.

for one christmas celebration kenz's (who was about 5??) favorite expression was: "WHAT THE??!!!" she pretty much yelled that right after opening every present.

then when our parents surprised us with a trip to florida/disney, they gave us each a camera with cash. kyle was pumped that he got money and said, "now i can buy a brain" which we later found out was a yo-yo. after dad telling him he should maybe save the money to use in florida kyle politely reminded my parents that they still owed him money for some babysitting.

and then theres me. im very thankful we waited to watch these movies until after i was married. because i dont know if the hubs woulda stuck around after seeing one particular christmas celebration. in which im somewhere between 11 and 13. let me just tell you what i got for christmas. and please know that with EACH of these gifts i was VERY excited. VERY excited. gift one: a bag of starbursts. (now we all know where my love of sweets started) when opening this gift i pretty much jumped for joy, arms extended and everything. gift two: a decorated heart box and matching journal. now i wasnt excited that those two things matched. nope. i was PUMPED that i already had MATCHING PENCILS. yes, what the heck, MATCHING PENCILS! gift three: a spell checker. like a little electronic device to spell check. ugh!

and if that isnt embarrassing enough. gift four. a group of 3 books. the first book was something about stephanie tanner from full house. the next one was a chicken soup for the soul book. great i love books. but the book i was SOOOO EXCITED for was a ROALD DAHL AUTOBIOGRAPHY. or something like that.

and with that i pray and hope you will still be friends with me. despite my young love for matching pencils, journal, boxes, a spell checker and the books i read. please? and thanks.

resolutions?!

holy buckets. how is it already 2012??? seriously, where did the time go?! it seems  like just yesterday it was the beginning of december. so between the holidays, family time, working and sleeping i havent quite got all the resolutions yet. for some reason it seems like this year is harder to come up with things to do. who knew. not i. so i guess you are stuck with the first half of the resolutions. at least until i get my act together and clean up the christmas decorations and think of some other things. (your suggestions are always welcome too!)
